The Pukeko series
I love drawing birds and animals, especially the ones native to where I live. Pukeko, also known as swamphens, are lovely, kind of goofy birds, and I can find them less than five minutes from home, so I have plenty of willing models. Their long legs are made for dashing through shallow swamp water, and their babies look like little grey balls with legs and a beak.
Steel Drum Cows
Hardly ever seen in the wild. I was lucky enough to see one of these grazing in a field in New Zealand. I didn’t have my camera on me, but I managed to draw a picture from memory shortly after the encounter.
